UTC Women's Soccer Falls 3-0 At Belmont In Exhibition

  • Monday, August 14, 2017

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women’s soccer team fell 3-0 to Belmont Sunday evening in exhibition play at E.S. Rose Park in Nashville.

“There were some positives despite the results,” Chattanooga head coach Gavin McKinney said.

“We had several spells of good pressure and created some excellent chances. We also got some valuable learning moments from playing against a different system.”

Belmont scored twice in the first half on goals from Anna Brock Hawkins in the 14th minute and Megan Michela just before the half.

Hawkins goal was a cross from left to right assisted by Julie Garst at the 13:52 mark of the game. Michela scored with 44:34 on the clock on an assist from MacKenzie Firek from the top of the box to the left corner.

Tara Austin notched the Bruins’ third goal at the 75:32 mark with a header off a free kick to make it 3-0.

The Mocs were outshot 19-11. Four Chattanooga players recorded two shots apiece and Austin led Belmont with four shots. Both teams had four corner kicks with all four of the Mocs’ coming in the first half. Belmont recorded 10 saves to UTC’s seven.

“Overall both of our preseason matches were beneficial as they allowed us to assess every player in our squad,” McKinney said. “We are looking forward to getting ready for our opening match on Friday.”

Chattanooga opens regular season play Friday, August 18 at Finley Stadium against Austin Peay. The game is set to tip off at 7:00 p.m. with gates opening one hour prior. Admission is free.
