Three Baylor School / Baylor Swim Club athletes will represent their respective home countries at the 2017 FINA World Junior Swimming Championships to be held August 23-28, 2017 at the IU Natatorium in Indianapolis, IN. Trey Freeman will represent Team USA, while Jack Kirby and Luis Sebastian Weekes will swim for their home country of Barbados. Due to Freeman's performance at the National Championships in June, Baylor Head Coach Dan Flack was also selected to represent Team USA as a member of their coaching staff.
Trey Freeman earned his space on the FINA World Junior Team with his performance at the Phillips 66 National Championships at the end of June.
Freeman claimed USA Swimming 18 & Under National Championships in both the 200 and 400 meter freestyle events. He has now qualified to swim the 200, 400 free, and 4x200 meter freestyle relay for Team USA at the 2017 FINA World Junior Championships.
Jack Kirby and Luis Sebastian Weekes qualified as members of Barbados FINA World Junior Team with their performances at the 2017 CARIFTA Swimming Championships held in the Bahamas in April. Kirby won Silver in the 50, 100 & 200 meter backstrokes He took Bronze in the 200 IM, as well as placing 4th in the 100 freestyle with a huge time drop. He will swim the 50, 100 meter backstroke events, and the 100 meter free at the FINA World Junior Championships. Weekes took Silver in the 200 fly, 200 IM & 400 IM, and won Bronze in the 200 breaststroke at the CARIFTA Championships in April. He will swim the 50, 100, 200 meter breastroke, 200 IM, and 200 meter butterfly events at the FINA World Junior Championships.
In 2011 Head Coach Dan Flack was a also a member of Team USA's coaching staff at the FINA World Junior Championships in Lima, Peru. Baylor alumni Kristen Vredeveld took gold in 2011 at the FINA World Junior Championships as a member of Team USA's 4x100 meter free relay.
