Sara “Gale” Adkerson Parish, 67, of Ooltewah, passed away on Monday, August 14, 2017 in a local hospital.

A resident of Chattanooga since 1978, she graduated from Glencliff High School in Nashville, and attended the University of Tennessee.

Gale was employed with the Bright School for 14 years and attended Ooltewah United Methodist Church.

She was an avid bridge player having enjoyed playing with several groups of her friends for many years and also loved to go boating with her husband.

Gale was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Jane Adkerson.

Gale always loved helping others who attended the Oral Cancer Support Group. Her positive attitude has inspired so many since her first cancer diagnosis 16 years ago. Among her favorite quotes were, “Cherish Every Moment, Even The Hard Ones”, “Every minute can be happy if you look at it that way”, “Life Is Good”, and “Happy Everything”.

She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Jimmy Parish;  son, Brett (Kristin) Parish, Knoxville;  sister, Joan Davis (Robert) Hayes, Smyrna, TN;  sister in law, Joan Parish Waggoner, LaVergne, Tn.; nephews, Billy Pearl, Brian Waggoner, Bradley Waggoner and James Waggoner.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held Thursday at 2:30 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Reverend Dwight Kilbourne officiating.
