Jungle Politics - And Response

  • Thursday, August 17, 2017
You are selling us short this morning, Joe Scarbrough., by trying to find a way to justify Donald Trump as President of the greatest country in the world.  Fear?  There is no room for fear amid all the lies he is willing to spout anytime, anywhere.  Is this what a real American expects?  Maybe so.  It is too hard to find a real American anymore when we all are weighing John McCain's contribution to this country and the world through all of his tribulations.

I am four years older than John McCain.  The greatest enemy that I remember in this country proper before WW2 was Thomas Dewey running against FDR.  Then came the great war of all time, all of which I remember via the voices of FDR, Churchill, and the news reporters imbedded in the trenches with the troops, and, of course the rantings of Hitler (which sound familiar to what has just come from the White House via the New York Times).  Most of that information was withheld until the War Department cleared it for us to learn about....all in the interest of security of this country.

The greatest enemy we have right now is Donald Trump and all of his busy bees at the White House willing to back him up on all of his lies.  He is unfit to represent this country in any dealings inside or outside this country.  My memory is crystal clear.  I know how far we have come since I was a child blowing out the lamps, covering the windows with black curtains in order to keep the fire burning in the stove from being visible from outside, and remaining silent until we heard the all clear from the air raid warning right here in Chattanooga.  That kind of fear cannot be forgotten and cannot be allowed to happen again.

It is time for all of those of us who have suffered through such injuries, pain, threats, spiritual declines/attacks, irnorance of our history, and wars to speak up and reject the weaknesses in our leaders as blind sheep being lead to the slaughter by a magician with nothing but lies in the hat.  They can be replaced easily.  My last vote has been cast for someone unfit to be an American.

So move over, Joe.  I have never pledged my support to a political party and never will.  I cannot be bought but I shall never pass up my obligation and dedication to vote as I have since I reached the age of 21.

* * *

I am afraid and I do not mind telling all.

 I read the article Jungle Politics sent by Charlotte Parton and felt just a twinge of memory. The pulling of the blinds, the siren and sitting in my mother's lap, afraid of what could happen.

We were all very tuned to the idea that German planes or Japanese fighter bombers could hit our tiny town. We all knew and felt the immense responsibility that was the 'War Effort.'  My fears with previous presidents does not exist and I can trace back to Truman.  That fear now is upon me and probably many others in this town.

Our problem is not that we aren't alone. Far from it.  We need a voice speaking up and speaking loudly to the rest of the country. Trump is a dangerous man and he occupies the presidency and great, great power. Failure to speak up might give this country's citizens a fear not felt in a very long time.

My voting record and my conscience could not find anything suitable or qualifying about Trump's qualifications to be president. He suggested over and over again that the presidency was just an ego trip for him. The actual work of the presidency has become an afterthought and we, the citizens have to wait until the proverbial other shoe falls.

Bob Corker at a local Rotary Club meeting spoke clearly and pretty loudly that he shares some of my fear and that of others. I hear other voices but the many talk into the sleeves of their shirts or speak harshly to the family dog.  I am one and no longer to be silent that this person occupying the White House is unfit for office.

Once more, citizens and voters, start writing letters, emails, telephone calls to your elected representative.  That is easy. We have two, Bob Corker and Congressmen Fleishmann.
