The Southern League has announced that Lookouts first baseman Jon Rodriguez has been named the Southern League Player of the Month for the month of July.
Rodriguez posted jaw dropping statistics during the month of July, as he finished the month with a league best, .383 batting average (44-for-115).
In 29 games played, Rodriguez collected 13 doubles, six home runs, 22 runs batted in, 17 walks, and 28 runs scored.
Rodriguez also posted a .652 slugging percentage as well as a .455 on-base percentage for the month.
Rodriguez’ stellar month is just a small reflection of his sensational year. The Lookouts first baseman/designated hitter finished the month as the Southern League leader in hits (44), runs scored (28), total bases (75), on-base percentage (.455), extra-base hits (19), and was tied for the most doubles in the Southern League (13).
Rodriguez’ 28 runs scored, and 44 hits were the most collected by any Double-A player during the month of July. Rodriguez also finished the month tied for the most doubles in Double-A baseball, and the second most in all of Minor League Baseball (13).
On the season, the power hitter is currently sporting a .317 AVG, and leads his team in RBIs (58), runs scored (68), home runs (15), total bases (179), slugging percentage (.516), and is tied with Nick Gordon for the most doubles on the team (24).
Rodriguez and the Lookouts will continue their quest for a Southern League title, as they take on the Montgomery Biscuits in game three of a five game series tonight at Montgomery Riverwalk Stadium beginning at 8:05 PM (ET).
The Chattanooga Lookouts (70-38) are also in a race for the most wins in all of Minor League Baseball, as they currently have the third most wins.
The team returns home on Friday, August 4th.
