Mocs Soccer At Radford, Elon This Weekend

  • Wednesday, August 23, 2017
The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women’s soccer team will take its successful start to the 2017 season on the road this weekend at Radford and Elon. The Mocs will take on Radford Friday night at 7:00 p.m. and then travel to Elon for a Sunday afternoon matchup at 2 p.m.

Chattanooga opened the season with a win over Austin Peay and then earned a 0-0 draw against Eastern Kentucky. Sophomore Jordan Mueller scored the first two goals for the Mocs in their 3-0 win over the Governors and assisted on the game winner.
She leads UTC with five points, six shots and four on goal. Catherine Meyer scored the Mocs’ game winner and is second on the team with one goal on three shots. Melia Correa has made both starts in goal and has one shutout. She has a .846 saves percentage and 0.90 goals against average.

The Mocs and Highlanders have met six times. Radford won the first four meetings and UTC claimed each of the last two. Last year the Mocs grabbed a 3-1 victory at home. On the road, UTC is 1-2 against Radford.

After splitting its exhibition season, Radford opened the season with back-to-back wins. The Highlanders scored a 3-0 shutout over Howard at home and then beat USC Upstate 3-2 on the road. Gabi Paupst leads the team with four points, scoring two goals on four shots. Allyson Giannone has three of Radford’s five assists and is matched with Nelia Perez for second on the team in scoring with three points. Three more players have one goal each with one more netting an assist.

The Mocs and Phoenix began competition in 2003 after Elon joined the Southern Conference. In 11 SoCon matches, the Phoenix carried a 7-4 advantage over the Mocs. Last season the two met out of conference play with Elon getting a 2-0 win in Chattanooga. The Mocs are 2-4 against the Phoenix on the road and look to snap a four-game losing skid at Rudd Field.

Elon has won both of its opening weekend matches and will take on former SoCon foe UNCG Thursday night. The Phoenix beat North Florida 4-2 on the road and Jacksonville 2-1 on the same trip. Meredith Christopher leads the team with four goals and nine points on eight shots. Susannah Anderson is second on the team with three points with one goal and one assist. Kendall Ballotti also has one goal this season with two more with one assist.

Live stats will be available for both games. The Mocs’ match at Radford will be streamed live on the Big South Network. Link for all are available at GoMocs.com on the women’s soccer schedule page.
