On Wednesday, the Southern League announced that Lookouts Manager Jake Mauer has been named the Southern League Manager of the Year. Mauer is the first Lookouts manager to win this award since Jayhawk Owens took home the prize in 2004.
This season Mauer has led the Lookouts to a first half championship and has put them one win away from a second half title.
Their 86 wins is one away from their win total in 2004 and five away from eclipsing their single season record of 90 set in 1992.
Under Mauer the Lookouts currently lead the league in runs (634), RBI (590), sacrifice flies (54), walks (590), on-base percentage (.347), shutouts (15), saves (44) and innings pitched (1193.0).
Mauer, brother of Twins star Joe Mauer, joined the Lookouts this season after spending the previous four years as the manager of the Cedar Rapids Kernels where he posted a record of 316-241.
The Lookouts 86 wins is currently the second most a Mauer-led team has had in a season. In 2013, Mauer led the Cedar Rapids Kernels to a record of 88-50.
The Lookouts last homestand of the year begins this Thursday against the second-place Montgomery Biscuits. The Lookouts should clinch the second-half title at home.
The upcoming homestand features MEGA Fireworks and the ZOOperstars! on Friday(9/1), College Football Night on Saturday (9/2) and College Kids Eat Free on Sunday(9/3).
This homestand is also the last chance for fans to exchange their unused 2017 tickets. For all five games fans can trade in their unused 2017 tickets at the RE/MAX Ticket Office for a general admission seat. If you don’t have any unused tickets, you can purchase tickets over the phone at 423-267-4TIX or visit Lookouts.com.
