Whatever the halftime speech was for Young Harris College it worked wonders as the Mountain Lions scored the match's lone goal just 48 seconds into the second half to hand the Lee men's soccer team a 1-0 road defeat on Tuesday night.
Carlos Gomez was in the right place at the right time as he ricocheted a shot off the left post for the game-winning goal at the 45:48 mark after Mehdy Hidane's initial shot was saved by Lee goalkeeper Tristan Putnam.
Putnam, fresh off being named GSC Defender of the Week, recorded a career-high 10 saves for the Flames as he and the Lee defense faced an onslaught from the Young Harris attack the entire evening.
The home team took 24 shots and placed 11 on goal.
Lee was credited with five shots and had three on frame but were held scoreless for the second straight match. Alex Iglesias earned the victory in net for the Mountain Lions and tallied three saves in the contest.
The Flames suffered their first loss under first-year head coach Derek Potteiger and are now 1-1-2 on the year. Young Harris improves to 3-1-1 with the victory. The Georgia club was ranked No. 11 last week before falling out of the top 25 in the latest rankings released earlier in the day.
The Flames will enter conference play on Friday as they welcome Delta State to the Lee Soccer Field for a 7 p.m. kickoff. On Sunday, Lee will host Mississippi College at 4 p.m. The Choctaws are currently in first place in the GSC and are receiving votes in the latest Top 25 poll.
