Dalton State Moore's Late Heroics Propels #19 Roadrunners To Another OT Victory

Dalton State got some late heroics from sophomore Santiago Moore to swarth an upset bid by SCAD-Savannah and win 3-2 in overtime on Sunday afternoon at Lakeshore Park.

THE FIRST HALF
It wasn't the Roadrunners, but the Bees who got out on the attack early. SCAD would possess the ball for much of the first 10 minutes of the contest, but would only manage to get one shot on goal. The Roadrunners would take command after, attacking on offense and playing tough defense in the sweltering heat.
Late in the half, the Roadrunners would turn the tables quick on the Bees, squashing a SCAD possession and immediately going on the attack when Jorge Hurtado picked a ball off on the Dalton State end and began racing up field. He would pass off to Santiago Moore who would do the rest, beating a diving Joe Parker for the first goal of the afternoon. The Roadrunner defense would hold true the rest of the half to hold a 1-0 lead at the break.

THE SECOND HALF
SCAD would come out on the attack early in the second half, maintaining possession in the Dalton State end. The equalizer would come in the 52' off the foot of SCAD's Arthur Veiga. Veiga would find space in the middle of the field and shift to his left before sending a screamer past an outstretched Samuel Friare to tie the match at 1-1. Both teams would continue to trade possessions and create opportunities for the next 25 minutes until SCAD's Tom Barry gave the Bees the 2-1 lead in the 78'. With time winding down and Dalton State down to it's last opportunities, Santiago Moore found Jordan Man who put it past Bee goalkeeper Joe Parker to tie the match at 2-2 and send it to overtime.

OVERTIME
The overtime would be short lived. The Bees would gain possession after kickoff, but a turnover and a clearing kick down field fell to a sprinting Santiago Moore. Moore would boot the ball over the oncoming Parker who could do nothing but watch as the ball bounced harmlessly into the net.

THE REST OF THE STORY
Dalton State improves to 6-1 overall on the season as SCAD-Savannah drops to 2-4. Santiago Moore records his second straight golden goal in overtime and now has six on the year to go along with eight assist. Jordan Man scored his second goal of the year, while Jorge Hurtado collects his first assist of the year in the win.

"This was our eighth overtime win at Lakeshore in three years," said DS coach Kerem Daser. "Never count my team out! It's nice to be 6-1 and nationally ranked, but we need to stay grounded and continue to improve everyday."

UP NEXT
The #19 Roadrunners will be back in action on September 28 when they take to the pitch to face off against Fisk (Tenn.). Kickoff is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
