The #4-ranked Dalton State women's golf team opened its fall season on Monday at the SCAD-Atlanta Fall Invitational, firing a team total of (+17, 301) on the par-71 Oaks Course in Covington, Ga. and sit in 2nd place, four shots off the lead held by Northwestern Ohio and Brenau (Ga.) at (+13, 297).
The score of the day for the Lady Roadrunners goes to sophomore Hannah Gasaway. Gasaway, playing as an individual, traveled around The Oaks Course at (+1, 72) and is tied for the overnight lead with Sara Jane Bowers of Brenau (Ga.) and Devaki Ganesh of Northwestern Ohio.
Two Lady Birds, All-American's Tia Teiniketo and Caroline Griffin, share 4th place at (+2) with Bria Sanders of SCAD-Atlanta and Niquole Mangal of Brenau (Ga.).
Sophomore Isabel Rijos had a solid start to the season posting a (+6, 77), while Haejin Choe carded the 22nd best score of the day at (+7, 78). All-American Heather Nail had an up-and-down day in her first competitive round in more than a year, registering a (+9, 80).
"We did some good things for our first tournament," said DS coach Jim McGrew. "I was really happy with the way Hannah, Caroline, and Tia played. We just have to find a way to save a few shots as a team, especially on the greens. We had way too many three putts, but that is not uncommon for early in the year." He concluded by saying, "we can not control what the other teams are doing, but we can control what we do. We will find out a lot about ourselves in how we respond tomorrow."
The #4-ranked Lady Roadrunners will be back in action on Tuesday, in the final round of the SCAD-Atlanta Fall Invitational at The Oaks Course in Covington, Ga.
