James Gordon Petty, 77, of Chattanooga, Tennessee, passed away on Saturday, September 23, 2017.

Gordon was an attorney for Moccasin Bend Mental Health Institute for over 30 years, and served as magistrate for Hamilton County in 2005. He was a member of Toastmasters and Burks United Methodist Church.

Gordon was preceded in death by his parents, Roy Humes and LouAda Erwin Petty; brother, Howard Petty, and sister, Dovie Reiff.

Gordon is survived by his wife, Alice Couch Petty; daughter, Anne Christina Petty and spouse, Matt Krystal; son, Charles David Rhoden III and spouse, Natalie Rhoden; daughter, Adrian Elizabeth Champine and spouse, Nathan Champine; son, James Gregory Erwin Petty; brother, Erwin “Buzz” Petty; grandchildren, Max, Julian, Frankie, John, Connor, Genevieve, and fur baby, Luci.

A memorial service for Gordon will be 2 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 29, at Burk’s United Methodist Church with Pastor Dwight Kilbourne. A celebration of life gathering will follow immediately after the service at Jefferson’s Restaurant on Georgia Avenue.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contribution may be made in Gordon’s name to Children’s Advocacy Center of Chattanooga, www.cachc.org.
