James “Jim” Bowen, Jr., 77, a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, of the New Salem Community, passed away on Wednesday, September 27, 2017.

He was a very active member of New Salem United Methodist Church. He was a Minister, teacher, coach, chaplain and scout master for 53 years of Troop #29 and former president of National Planers Association. 

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Louise Baker Bowen; parents, James S. Bowen, Sr. and Mildred Bowen, Carl and Cleo Baker

Survivors include his daughters, Deborah (Randall) Minor; Linda (Dennis) Whitmore, Carla (Tim) Porter; son, Terry (Trish) Bowen; brothers, Bert (Linda) Bowen, Richard “Dick” (Sandy) Bowen and Dennis (Shirl) Bowen; eleven grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren; and a host of friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 30, at New Salem United Methodist Church with Reverend Jodie Ihfe and Reverend Wayland Stewart officiating. Burial will be held in Hawkins Cemetery with military honors by American Legion #106. Honorary pallbearers will be former members of Boy Scout Troop #29.

Visitation will be on Friday, from 4-8 p.m. at Moore Funeral Home, and Saturday, from 12-2 p.m. at New Salem United Methodist Church.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to: New Salem United Methodist Church or Shiloh Community Church.
