2 Homes Damaged By Fire In Brainerd And Harrison Monday Morning

  • Monday, January 1, 2018

Two separate fires damaged homes Monday morning.

An early morning fire in Brainerd was the first of the year for the Chattanooga Fire Department.

The call came in at 1:58 a.m. as a vehicle fire with structural endangerment at 5600 Old Mission Road.  Squad 13 was first on the scene. Captain Keith Liles reported a fully involved vehicle with flames moving into the house.

Additional companies were dispatched. Quint 13 secured a water supply from a nearby hydrant and the fire was quickly controlled and extinguished.  Squad 1, Engine 15, and Quint 6 assisted. There were no injuries. The cause is under investigation.

The second fire was in the Harrison area.

At 9 a.m., a 911 call was made reporting a garage fire with possible structure endangerment at 6917 Sentinel Lane. The 58 Volunteer Fire Department responded and arrived on the scene confirming an unattached garage was fully involved with fire. A mutual aid alarm was requested for additional manpower and fire apparatus.

The Tri-Community VFD responded to the scene with manpower and conducted a tanker shuttle for water supply. The East Ridge Fire Department stood by at Highway 58 Stations for any additional emergency calls.

Mutual Aid Chief Mike Williams reported the firefighters worked quickly to contain the fire to the garage. There is some fire damage to a back porch from an adjacent home. A family member was living in the garage using a wood stove for heat. Fire officials reported the son’s clothes caught fire from the wood stove. He suffered minor burns to his back. He was treated on the scene by Hamilton County EMS but denied transport to the hospital.

The cause of the fire is considered accidental from the wood stove. Damages are unknown at this time.
