Marie Byrd Currey,  94, of Chattanooga, died on Thursday, January 11, 2018 in a local health care center.

A resident of Chattanooga for the past 16 years, Mrs. Currey was a longtime resident of Birmingham. She was an avid golfer, bridge player and was a member of Terry Walker Country Club in Leeds, Al.

Mrs. Currey was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lee Currey.

Survivors are her daughter, Sharon (Bill) Whetsell, Loudon; son, Randy (Patty) Currey, Chattanooga; four grandchildren, Doug (Jenny) Whetsell, Ft. Collins, Co., Andy (Amy) Whetsell, Columbus, Oh., Robert Currey, Jacksonville, Fl., and Ryan (Janice) Currey, Valdosta, Ga.; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 17, at 2:30 p.m. at the Chattanooga National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
