Martha Freels, age 90, of Signal Mountain, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, January 13, 2018. 

Martha was born January 19, 1927 in Troy, Ohio, to Curtis and Georgia Holder. She graduated from Denison University. Upon graduation, she went to work for IBM, training others to program computers, and was later employed by the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, where she again taught computer programming. Martha was a member of Signal Mountain Presbyterian Church for over 50 years.  She was an avid bridge and tennis player, an outdoor enthusiast, and a longtime supporter of the Girl Scouts.  

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Robert C. Holder, and a sister, Louise Kimmel.

Martha is survived by her husband, William G. Freels; children, William G. Freels, III (Mary Jo) of Nashville, Anne Freels Bleynat (Edward) of Asheville, North Carolina, and five grandchildren, Web, Elizabeth, and Luke Bleynat, and Ashlynn and Annalee Freels.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Jan. 27, at 2 p.m. at Signal Mountain Presbyterian. Church.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Signal Mountain Presbyterian Church, 612 James Boulevard, Signal Mountain, Tn. 37377, or to the charitable organization of your choice.

The family extends its thanks to the many friends who have provided companionship and support, especially during recent months.

Arrangements are by the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson, Tn. 37343.
