Bitter Cold And Icy Roads To Continue Through Thursday Morning In Chattanooga; Some Flights Cancelled; Hamilton County Schools Closed

Wednesday, January 17, 2018

Bitter cold temperatures will continue for Chattanooga, the National Weather Service has warned,

The NWS also is advising motorists to watch for patchy icy roads.

Hamilton County Schools will be closed on Thursday "due to areas of the county with too much ice still on the roads for buses to pass safely.

“The roads in many areas of the county have cleared but there are just too many still with icy conditions to get all of our children to school safely in the morning,” said Dr. Bryan Johnson, superintendent of Hamilton County Schools.  “System personnel have traveled to problem areas and remote roadways to make sure we have a complete picture of road conditions across the county and it is clear we need to close in the best interest of safety for our children.

"Falling temperatures tonight will keep ice on the roadways until well into the late morning or later tomorrow afternoon with highs only reaching just above freezing on Thursday. Hopefully, the forecast will hold true and temperatures will rise above freezing to help us clear roads tomorrow afternoon.”

All before and after-school daycare will also be canceled for Thursday.

Central office personnel should report for normal hours.

We continue to ask anyone traveling to always check with your air carrier before arriving at the airport for your flight."

Roy Exum: Dear Faux Pelini

It has been my experience that of all the tribes and herds of different people on earth, sports writers are among the funniest people of all. Oh, there isn’t anything real sexy about Villanova beating Georgetown or a baseball player hitting for the cycle. Now, if a player hits a single, double, triple and homer in that order, that’s “a natural cycle,” and that is kind of fun to ... (click for more)
