Murfreesboro businessman Shane Reeves on Thursday defeated fellow Republican Joe Carr, a former state House member, for the Republican nomination for the District 14 Senate seat.
He will oppose Democrat Gayle Jordan, who had 574 votes.
It was Reeves over Carr by 4,720 to 2, 556.
The seat was previously held by Jim Tracy, who stepped down to become Tennessee Director for Rural Development with the Trump Administration.
The district includes Bedford, Lincoln, Marshall, Moore and Rutherford counties.
Tennessee Republican Party Chairman Scott Golden said, "I would like to congratulate Shane Reeves as he becomes the Republican nominee for State Senate in District 14. We look forward to working with Shane over the next few weeks spreading the message of the Tennessee success story.
"Voters understand that Republican policies are driving the results of record low taxes and unemployment, as well as nation-leading economic growth. That record contrasts sharply with the record of obstruction Democrats have shown since President Trump’s election. Tennesseans want to see results, not road blocks, and that is exactly what Shane Reeves will deliver as the next State Senator for District 14.”
