Explore the trails of Stringer's Ridge Park by foot as the sun sets on a free, guided hike provided by Outdoor Chattanooga. Approximately 3 miles round-trip, this leisurely paced hike will lead up to an overlook in hopes to get the best view of the full moon rising over the Scenic city's nighttime skyline and shimmering lights. Participants should wear sturdy shoes and clothes appropriate for the weather and bring their own water and a headlamp.
Appropriate for ages 10+ with an adult.
This group hike is limited to 25 people to limit traffic on the trail. Reservations required in advance. Call 423-643-6888 to learn more and register.
Fireside: Outdoor Concert Series
Thursdays in October | 7:00 - 9:00 p.m.
Thanks toTennessee Valley Federal Credit Unionfor sponsoring this free, family friendly, outdoor concert series hosted byOutdoor Chattanooga, which gathers around a campfire at Greenway Farm Park.All ages are invited to come out, unplug and enjoy an autumn evening in the park. Bring your blankets, chairs, marshmallow roasting sticks and a picnic supper; then sit back and enjoy live music in a rustic outdoor setting. The stage is located on the porch of the Sniteman Log Cabin behind the gardens at the Park.

Battlefield Bike Tour
Sat., October 20 | 9:30 - 11:30 a.m.
Enjoy a leisurely-pacedbicycle tour on the Chickamauga Battlefieldwith the National Park Serviceand Outdoor Chattanooga. Bicycles are available at no charge with reservation; contact the Visitor Center at (706) 866-9241 to reserve. Or bring your own. Ages 6+ (no training wheels please). Cost: Free. Helmets required for all riders.
Camp & Kayak on the TN River Blueway
Saturday, October 20 -- Sunday, October 21 | 11:00 a.m. -- 1:00 p.m.
Join Outdoor Chattanooga for a guided and equipped overnight kayak tour down the gorgeous Tennessee River Gorge.Guides will lead you on a leisurely paced paddle down the "Grand Canyon" of Tennessee. As the river winds through the gorge, it creates the opportunity to view historic, natural and geologic wonders from the unique perspective of a kayak. Guides offer a pre-trip planning meeting on how to properly pack the essentials for this overnight adventure. Cost is $125 per person which includes guides on the water, all the kayaking equipment (kayak, paddle, PFD), camping equipment, and transportation. This kayak tour is appropriate for ages 16+ when accompanied by an adult. Some prior kayaking/paddling experience is helpful but not required to participate in this tour. Guides will offer paddling instruction and provide support throughout the duration of the tour. Reservations and payment are required in advance as space is limited.

Chattanooga Area Interscholastic Climbing League
The 2018-2019 school year is back in session, andOutdoor Chattanoogais excited to once again offer Chattanooga area middle and high school students the opportunity to participate in theInterscholastic Climbing League(ICL). The ICL introduces student climbers to a challenging sport in an environment that emphasizes communication, teamwork, and positive social interaction without the competitive pressures often associated with traditional sports. The ICL offers six organized meets for school teams to compete in through the winter months at the three local climbing gyms. Prior experience is not required to participate in the league. Most area schools, including public, private and home schools have established climbing teams. Check with your school to see if a team already exists and how to join. If your school doesn't have a team,email Outdoor Chattanoogaor call 423-643-6888 to find out how to form a new team or compete individually.

3 Sisters Bluegrass Festival
October 5 & 6 at Ross' Landing
The 12th annual 3 Sisters Festival was named one of the top 5 Bluegrass festivals by Great American Country and has brought some of the biggest names in Bluegrass to Chattanooga over the past 11 years.3 Sisters is aFREEevent given to the community by the Fletcher Bright Realty Company and the Bright Family held on Ross' Landing.

Tennessee River Rescue
Saturday, October 6 | 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.
30 years ago, a group of environmentalists started a grassroots efforts to make a difference in the Scenic City by cleaning up trash in the Tennessee River. For the past 30 years, hundreds of volunteers have come together annually to help clean up and protect our source of drinking water duringTennessee River Rescue. Tons of tires, plastic bottles and other trash have been removed by these eco-warriors over the years. Find out how you can become an eco-warrior and help clean up the banks of the TN River and its tributaries at one of 20 zones across Bradley, Hamilton and Marion counties.

Acres of Darkness
Firdays & Saturdays in October | 7:30 p.m. - 11:00 p.m.
TheAcres of Darknessis fun for the entire family with activities and entertainment for all ages. There are two trails—one for the families, and the Haunted Forest Trail for those who dare. There is also a family area for everyone to enjoy. Enjoy a s’more and a cup of cocoa by the bonfire or journey to the depths of the forest for the fright of your life. All proceeds benefit the environmental conservation and education programs of theChattanooga Audubon Society.Open Fridays & Saturdays in October. Admission - $15,

Here's a couple family-friendly camping events that offer great gear head advice and use of equipment along with guidance from outdoor professionals so you can look like a champion camper in front of your children.
Fall Camping for Kids
Sat, Oct. 6-Sun. Oct. 7 | 1 p.m. - 11 a.m.
One World Adventureis offering kids the opportunity to expand their knowledge of camping by learning simple knots and basic camping etiquette in some beautiful locations! Overnight backpacking trips are created with kids in mind and are unforgettable. All equipment can be provided; tent or hammock, sleeping bags and all cookware. Cost is $75 per child with a discount for multiple siblings. Trips are appropriate for ages 9-12.

Camping: Family Style
Fri. Oct. 12 - Sat. Oct. 13 | 4p.m. - 10a.m.
Hamilton Co. Parks and RecandRock Creekjoin forces to offer a special family camping experience at Enterprise South Nature Park.Park Rangers and R/C gear professionals will be on hand to teach the basics of setting up a tent, preparing a camp meal, as well as how to Leave No Trace in the outdoors. Restrooms and meals will be provided. Some camping equipment is available for use, but they recommend bringing your own if you have it.Cost: $15 per family of 6 people or less.

TheLittle Debbie IRONMAN Chattanoogatook over the Scenic City on Sunday, September 30, bringing with it thousands of athletes that made the trek to Chattanooga to complete 144.6 miles of swim, bike, run in one day! And even though the rains washed out the swim, the energy in the city was electric! It wouldn't have been possible without the hundreds of dedicated volunteers and city employees that give their time and efforts to make this event super special every single year. THANK YOU!!

IRONMAN athletes voted Chattanooga Overall satisfaction, Best Overall swim,Best Overall Bike, Best Race Venue, Best Host City, and Best Post-Race Celebration.
