The City of Collegedale will be honoring its 50th Anniversary with a special celebration on Sunday, Oct. 21. Members of the Greater Collegedale Community and surrounding areas are invited to attend the historic event slated to begin at 6:30 p.m. in the newly opened Founders Hall at The Commons on Swinyar Drive.
“We want everyone to join us in honoring our past and supporting the present, while we strive to continue expanding the ideals of this progressive, vibrant and inclusive community,” said Mayor Katie Lamb. The 50th celebration event is a culmination of activities held throughout the year that were dedicated to commemorating the founding of Collegedale as a city in 1968.
The festivities will begin with a performance by the Southern Adventist University’s orchestra. During the event, a special video produced by Baron Williams will be shown and a commissioned mural by artist Ali Kay will be revealed. Both the video and mural reflect on the city’s beginnings and highlight the people and events that helped make Collegedale the great city it is today.
The celebration will conclude with refreshments and a spectacular fireworks show scheduled for 8 p.m.
