James Michael "Mike" Ivey, 71, of Rock Spring, Georgia, left this world all too soon after a brief illness.
Mike was a sergeant in the Army and served in the Vietnam War. He was instrumental in bringing digital claim technology to Blue Cross Blue Shield of Tennessee before later retiring from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida. Mike enjoyed golfing and his love of sports included the Atlanta Braves, Georgia Tech Football, and the Jacksonville Jaguars. He was greatly loved by his family and will be dearly missed.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, James Donald and Dorothy Annette Harper Ivey; brother, Ricky Ivey; sister, Janice Ivey Vaughn.
Those left to hold his memories dear are his wife of 26 years, Janice A. Ivey; children, Jill (Greg) Harrison of Jacksonville, Fl., Austin Ivey of Memphis; brother, Bill (Judy) Ivey of Palm Coast; step-children, Jeff (Stephanie) Smith, Veronica (Mark) Stone; Stacey (Duane) Ware; eight grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
The family would like to express a special thank you to Hospice of Chattanooga for the exceptional care given to Mike.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 24, in the funeral home chapel.
A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 24, in the Chattanooga National Cemetery with the American Legion Post 95 and the Army National Guard providing military honors.
