Luwana Lura Owens, 90, of Benton, and formerly of Greasy Creek, passed away Sunday, October 21, 2018. She loved to quilt, watch her garden grow, humming birds and word search books. Her “grands” were the love of her life and she brightened up when they came to visit. She was a member of Fairview Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Reverend George Andrew Owens; daughters, Cecilia Murray and Kay Green; son, Johnny Owens; parents, Julius and Ethel Rymer; sister, Charmie Johnson; and brothers, Author Rymer and Eugene Rymer.
She is survived by her children, Gilbert and Brenda Owens, of Chattanooga and Becky and Terry Calhoun, of Benton; 12 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Pat Owens; son-in-law, Ron Green; sisters, Kay Harper, Shirlene Nicholson, Phyllis Morris and Glenda Smith; brother, Garland Rymer; and several nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Funeral services will be at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 24 in the chapel of Higgins Funeral Home, with Reverend Bobby Green officiating. Interment will be at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 25 in Fairview Baptist Church Cemetery. A white dove ceremony will conclude the service.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 24 at the funeral home, prior to the service.
