Accident On Ooltewah-Georgetown Road Overpass Causes 2nd Accident On I-75

  • Friday, November 16, 2018
Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office personnel responded on Friday at approximately 9 a.m. to a single-vehicle accident near the intersection of Ooltewah Georgetown Road and Sylar Road.

According to the preliminary investigation, one vehicle was traveling south on Ooltewah-Georgetown Road crossing the bridge over I-75 when it began sliding on ice on the roadway. The vehicle slid across the center line and struck the concrete bridge railing before coming to rest. When the vehicle struck the rail, the impact caused the rail to break, causing debris to fall onto the interstate below.

A second accident occurred when another vehicle was traveling north on I-75, passing under the overpass as debris fell.
It struck a large piece of concrete causing damage to the right front tire and wheel.

Tennessee Department of Transportation and Hamilton County Highway Department responded to the scene to clear the roadways and secure the damage to the bridge.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported from either accident.
