Lady Cougars Fall To Snead State, 67-54; Cleveland State Men Lose 74-70

Cleveland State Community College's women's basketball team faced Snead State Community College on Tuesday evening, losing by a score of 67-54. It was a hard-fought game between the two squads but it was Snead State who snuck out with the victory.

Leading the Lady Cougars was Hannah Phillips who dropped 20 points, 4 assists and 4 steals. Kaitlin Crump also had a nice game, tallying a double-double as she scored 11 points, 12 rebounds, and two steals. Jordan Smith added 7 points as Michaela Bennefield and Za'Kkira Robinson each scored 5 points. Britany Gore was a force on the boards, snagging a whopping 13 rebounds. 

Cleveland State kept the game close at times but ultimately did not hold a lead for the entire game. Hannah Phillips played hard, doing her best to keep the Lady Cougars within reach while Britany Gore did her best to keep the ball in Cleveland State's hands. Snead State, however, proved to be too much as they held a steady lead, going into the half with a score of 36 over the Lady Cougar's 26. Cleveland State was able to keep the score within 7 heading into the fourth quarter but Snead State did not budge, walking away with a 13-point victory at the end of the game. 

The Lady Cougars are now 2-3 (1-1) on the season. They will be back in action on Dec. 7 as they face Motlow State at home with tip-off coming at 7:30 p.m.

Cleveland State Community College's men's basketball team faced the Snead State Parsons Tuesday evening, losing a close battle, 74-70.

Leading the Cougars was Demonte Person and Maurice Dickson. Each scored 16 points while Person tallied 3 assists and 2 steals while Dickson collected 3 rebounds. Tehj Powell also contributed 12 points and 4 rebounds while Darius Turnman dropped 12 points. 

It was a hard fought game between the two teams. Snead State held a consistent lead throughout the game but the Cougars were able to threaten multiple times. Going into the half down 34-25, the Cougars did their best to overcome Snead State in the second half. The Parsons started off the second half hot, taking a 13 point lead over the Cougars. Cleveland State gained some momentum back to bring the lead to within four points before eventually losing by a score of 74-70. The game ended in a series of free throws between the two squads but it was Snead State who came out as the victor.

Cleveland State is now 2-5 (0-2) on the season. They'll look to get back in the win column on Tuesday, November 27th as they'll travel to Gadsden State Community College for a road matchup.
