Covenant Men's Tennis Tabbed Preseason Favorite In USA South West

  • Thursday, February 1, 2018
The Covenant men's tennis team picked up four of the six first place votes and was tabbed as the favorite in the USA South West Division as the conference released its annual preseason coaches' poll on Thursday.

Covenant received 22 total points, including those four first place tallies, to take the top spot in the West Division.
Piedmont had 19 points and got one first place vote to place second, while Huntingdon, LaGrange, and Maryville completed the top five in the division. Maryville received the final first place vote.

The Scots claimed a share of the division title last year with Piedmont and took the No. 1 seed from the West in the conference tournament. The regular season title was the first in the program's history and the 12 wins on the year set a single-season program record.

In the East Division, N.C. Wesleyan received four first place votes and 24 total points to be picked as the division's favorite. Methodist, Averett, and Ferrum rounded out the top four, while Greensboro and William Peace tied for fifth.

The USA South Tournament will start on April 13, in LaGrange, Ga., as a part of the USA South Spring Sports Festival, hosted by the City of LaGrange and Troup County. The tournament will take place both at the McCluskey Tennis Center and the LaGrange College Varsity Courts. The top three teams from each division will advance to the tournament.
