Vernon Earl Boyd, Sr., 88 of Dalton, passed away Tuesday, January 30, 2018, at Hamilton Medical Center. 

He was the son of the late Fred and Lillie Slaton Boyd. 

Vernon was a veteran of the United States Army having served during the Korean War and was a member of Salem Baptist Church. He loved the outdoors whether he was fishing, gardening or traveling. 

He is survived by his son, Vernon Earl Boyd Jr. of Dalton; sister, Betty Ellis McIntosh; brothers, James W. Boyd and Robert A. (Henrietta) Boyd all of Dalton; special friends, Pat McFalls, Brian (Diana) Phillips and Wesley Phillips of Dalton; grandchildren, Lindsey (Derek) Nash, Brandon Boyd and Logan (Megan) Boyd; great-grandchildren, Stella Kate Nash, Charlee Nash and Chandler Boyd; and nieces and nephews. 

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Chapel of Love Funeral Home with Minister Byron Brackett and the Rev. Jim Brinkley officiating. 

Burial will follow in Poplar Spring Cemetery. 

The family will receive friends at Love Funeral Home on Saturday from 11 a.m. until the funeral hour at 2 p.m.
