Lookout Mountain Sports Hall of Fame Adds Eight Members

Highlighted by  two national champions and a pair of All-Americans, the Lookout Mountain Sports Hall of Fame Committee has announced its class of 2018 which will be honored Sunday, May 6, at 3 p.m. in the Lookout Mountain School gym.

Tennis is represented by Kappie Clark Boles, All-American Elisabeth Donnovin and national champions Pem Guerry and Jack Webb, Caroline Caulkins Bentley was an All-American in swimming and Schaack Van Deusen represents wrestling.

Lee Dyer is an NFL official and B.B. Branton goes in in the sports media category.

Caroline Caulkins Bentley (swimming)

Two-time high school All-American swimmer in the 200 medley relay and the 400 free relay for GPS … Three-time high point swimmer in the Chattanooga Area Swim League …multiple city champion in the 100 back, butterfly and breast and the 200 individual medley… 2013 GPS Margaret Rollins Service Award … swam collegiately at Brenau College … currently is an age group coach for McCallie/GPS Aquatics

Kappie Clark Boles (tennis)

Two-time  winner of National Super Seniors and Ultra Seniors Father-Daughter bronze balls with her dad, Warren Clark, in 2004 and 2008 … won 1996 Mississippi Valley Open Championship Doubles title with sister, Sholar …  No.1 in the South in singles in 12’s-16’s… ranked as high as number three nationally … four-time Chattanooga City singles champ … USTA National Sportsmanship Award, 1974 … five-time GPS MVP…won five state high school titles … youngest player to win the TSSAA State Titles … received the  Sandra Martin Award, Overmeyer Tennis Award (3) and Martin Thompson Tennis Award (3) … captain and team MVP as a senior at Virginia …  coached St. John’s School (Houston) to its first state girls’ tennis title in 2000

Co-Tennessee Tennis writer of the year (1997) while at the Chattanooga Free Press… sports writer for Lookout Mountain Mirror, Chatanoogan.com and Chattanooga Free Press … graduate of Lookout Mountain School (’62), McCallie School (’69) and Ole Miss(’73) … member of three Mid-South Conference champion wrestling teams at McCallie … Lookout Mountain summer checkers champion (age 7) … scored a run in a World Series (age 11, Little Boys Baseball) … caught the winning touchdown pass in a bowl game (age 11) … led Lookout Mountain School in scoring as Hawks won the basketball title (age 12) … 2017 recipient of the McCallie True Blue Award

Long time prep, college and pro football official … High School (12), Southern Conference (9), Southeastern Conference (5) and NFL Europe (4) and the NFL (15) … Ten varsity letters in football swimming and baseball at Baylor School …. All-City in baseball batting .358 as a senior … team captain in football and baseball … Played baseball at UTC for four years … received the Baylor Distinguished Service Award along with his brother, Doug, and father, Bo, in 1996 … as a student he received  the Alexander Guerry Leadership Award, Ted Nelson Best Athlete Award and the Tommy Mullican Athletic Award for character, leadership, and spirit.

Is a four-time national champion … member/captain of national team champions for Baylor School and USTA’s Flex-all 454 squad and SMU’s team which finished 3 in NCAAs … Southern singles and doubles champion in 10s through 18s … national top 4 rankings in 12s and 14s singles, No.1 in 12 doubles and No.2 in 14 doubles … Top 10 in 16s doubles … high school state champion in singles (1) and doubles with Wesley Cash (3) and national champ in singles and doubles …varsity at Baylor for six years while team was undefeated … team captain at Baylor School and SMU … Southwest Conference champion at No.3 doubles … Salutatorian,  Cum Laude and National Merit finalist and Jumonville Award for best all-around junior student  at Baylor and Phi Beta Kappa at SMU

national high school assistant wrestling coach of the year … coached 40 years at Notre Dame and Baylor … head coach as Notre Dame won the 1970 state wrestling title … lettered in football, wrestling, tennis and baseball at Baylor … two-time City Prep wrestling champion ... two-time Mid-South runner-up … also wrested collegiately at Virginia and Chattanooga … intramural boxing champion at Virginia.

Jack Webb (tennis)

1978 national grass court doubles champion … two-time city singles and seven-time doubles champion … two-time Tennessee Valley Invitational men’s doubles champion …four-time Southern clay court doubles champion in 18s, 40s and 50s (2) … team captain at McCallie and Kentucky … led McCallie to 1975 Rotary title … 1976 Southeastern Conference No.3 doubles champion … All-SEC in 1978 … two-time team MVP.
