Miller Opposing Hammond In Sheriff's Race; Deere Enters Judge Race; 4 Entries In Register Contest; Dean, Behler, Knowles, Henry, Hullander Unopposed

Victor Miller, a Chattanooga Police homicide unit supervisor, will be the only opposition for veteran Sheriff Jim Hammond in the upcoming election.

Sgt. Miller is running as a Democrat, and Sheriff Hammond is a Republican.

Attorney Timothy Deere is a late entry in the race for Circuit Court judge, Division IV. He will run as a Democrat. Kyle Hedrick, who was appointed judge after Neil Thomas retired early, will face Catherine "Cate" White in the Republican primary.

The qualifying deadline was today at noon.

Several candidates got in the register of deeds race late after Rep. Marc Gravitt was an early entry. Rep. Gravitt will be in the Republican primary along with Randy Johnston and Sheldon Wright. Vickie Schroyer is running as a Democrat.

Both Mr. Wright and Ms. Schroyer work in the office. Mr. Johnston is a longtime employee in the assessor's office.

Longtime Register Pam Hurst is retiring.

George Ryan Love and Aloyse Brown are running in the Democratic primary for county mayor. Incumbent Republican Jim Coppinger is unopposed in the primary.

A host of county officeholders are unopposed.

They include County Clerk Bill Knowles, Trustee Bill Hullander, Criminal Court Clerk Vince Dean, Circuit Court Clerk Larry Henry and Juvenile Court Clerk Gary Behler.
