As noted, The Chattanooga Salvation Army has been serving our community for 125 years! According to an 1893 story in the Chattanooga Times, Salvation Army District Officer J.C. Smith arrived in town on the 16th, and the next day he greeted Chattanoogans with these timely words, "We (come) with peace, charity and goodwill toward everyone, and we trust we shall succeed in doing good."
Adjutant Smith's words still ring true today in Chattanooga and around the world where The Salvation Army serves in 128 countries. Our promise to our community is "Doing the Most Good for people in need with donors' contributions of money, time and resources."
Without discrimination or cost, The Salvation Army continues to offer social services to provide emergency assistance, spiritual outreach with character-building church programs for all ages, and holiday assistance, like Angel Tree, that bring the joy of Christmas to thousands of individuals and families.
