Erlanger Health System and University of Tennessee College of Medicine officials said they are working through some issues, but expect to maintain their long-standing relationship.

The entities said they "are facing a number of historic matters that are being addressed in a proactive manner. Our intentions are to transition to a more contemporary model, thereby enhancing the overall academic mission of the Chattanooga-based health system."

Due to the significance of this partnership, Erlanger and University of Tennessee administration, working in conjunction with select UT board members and Erlanger’s Board Executive Committee, met Thursday, it was stated..

Recognizing the significance of the academic enterprise, both organizations wanted this opportunity to address the remaining concerns. Jack Studer, chairman of Erlanger’s Board of Trustees, stated, "Throughout Thursday’s discussion there was difficult, but productive and constructive dialogue. We are confident this important work is being done in good faith and will lay the foundation for an even better working relationship going forward."

Officials said attendees "agreed to work diligently to overcome these matters in a timely manner. Without exception, those in attendance expressed confidence that the remaining concerns will be resolved and that the important academic partnership between the Erlanger Health System and University of Tennessee will remain strong for years to come."
