Joseph Simeon Sparks, Jr. went home to be with the Lord on February 18, 2018.  
 
He was born on Aug. 25, 1927, to the late Joseph Simeon Sparks Sr. and Louise Green Sparks. He was preceded in death by his brothers Norman, Langston, and Calvin Sparks of Chattanooga; and his sister, Ethel Sparks Barkley, of Detroit Michigan.

“Joe,” as he was familiarly known, was educated in the Chattanooga School System. He served in the United States Navy.   

He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, VenediaSparks; sisters, Orcillia Sparks Cunningham of Detroit, MI and Hazel Sparks Bohannon of Miami, FL; children, Beverly  S. Sutton, Ronnie L. (Regina) Sparks Sr., Linda S. (Preston) Rogers and stepdaughter, Alesia Nelson; four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 27, at Warren Chapel A.M.E. Church, and the family will receive friends from 10–11 a.m. prior to the service.
 
Interment will be in Chattanooga National Cemetery.  
Arrangements are by John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Ave., 622-9995.
