Christopher Turner
Police said Christopher Lashawn Turner stood over 24-year-old Jamichael Eddins on Carousel Road late Tuesday afternoon and fired multiple shots into him after shooting him moments before.
Turner, 26, of 1203 Sholar Ave., was charged with criminal homicide, aggravated assault, reckless endangerment and possession of a firearm.
Randall Davenport, 28, was also injured in the shooting at 1400 Carousel Road.
He was taken to the hospital. He was treated, then released.
Turner said he had been shot in his butt cheek. Police said they believe the wound was self-inflicted. Turner said he disposed of his gun in a wooded area, but did not know the whereabouts.
Chattanooga Police were called at 5:25 p.m. to the shooting scene where officers found Eddins dead and Davenport with a single gunshot wound to his side.
Davenport said Eddins had thrown his gun on the ground in an effort to have a fist fight with Turner. He said Turner then pulled a large firearm.
Davenport said he got shot when he tried to stop Turner. He said Eddins tried to run after he was also shot, but he fell down. It was then, he said, that Turner stood over him and fired more shots.
Davenport said Turner is his cousin.
Police said during the incident there was a Chevy Cruz nearby with three occupants, including a newborn child. The front bumper of the vehicle was struck by gunfire.
Police said at approximately
12:30 a.m., officers observed the suspect vehicle at
1300 N. Holtzclaw Ave. and conducted a traffic stop. Turner was placed into custody without incident.
He was transported to Parkridge Hospital to have his injury checked out, then taken to the jail.
Turner is being held on bonds totaling $1,250,000.
Carousal Road is off Greenwood Road.
