Curious about backpacking, but not sure where to go, have anyone to go with or if you have the right equipment?
Outdoor Chattanooga can help eliminate those barriers with their introductory backpacking adventures on the Cumberland Trail. As part of its Cumberland Trail Hiking Series, Outdoor Chattanooga will offer three weekend backpacking trips along the Cumberland Trail in 2018. Scheduled dates are March 10-11, April 14-15 and Nov.
10-11.
Experienced guides will be with participants every step of the way providing instruction on the basics of backpacking. Get a fully immersive nature experience while getting hands on practice with backpacking skills. Learn how to properly pack the essentials, campsite selection and setup, food selection and cooking techniques on the trail, all while practicing Leave No Trace principles in the backcountry. The cost is $65 per person which includes formal instruction, guides along the trail assisting with campsite setup and breakdown, meal prep and cleanup, transportation to and from the trailheads, and the use of backpacking/camping equipment (if needed).
The Cumberland Trail is a scenic footpath that traverses rugged terrain in a remote setting. Outdoor Chattanooga asks that participants have some hiking experience and be physically able to hike four to six miles per day on a trail rated as moderately strenuous while carrying a pack weighing 25 to 45 pounds. Beginners will find this adventure to be challenging, but certainly attainable. Appropriate for children ages 14 and up when accompanied by a participating adult.
