Cleveland officials and representatives of Lee University gathered on Billy Graham Avenue on Wednesday to speak about the famed evangelist and pray a prayer of thanksgiving for his ministry and long life.

Rev. Billy Graham began his higher education as a 19-year old student on the campus when it was Bob Jones College.

In 2012, the city named a portion of a street through the campus Billy Graham Avenue. On Nov. 7, 2017, on Rev. Graham’s 99th birthday, Billy Graham Avenue was extended the remaining distance across the campus.

On Wednesday, in the wake of the news of Rev. Graham’s death, the street signs were draped in black and flowers were attached to the sign posts. Wreaths of white flowers were placed on the doors at Medlin Hall, the dormitory were the young Billy Graham lived while at Lee.
