TWRA has partnered with Fall Creek Falls State Park to bring new trout fishing opportunities to the area. Both rainbow trout and brook trout will be stocked in the upper sections of Cane Creek by March 1. The rainbows will be placed in The George Hole, near the Nature Center, where anglers will have ample bank-fishing access and the brookies will be stocked upstream, around the Highway 284 Bridge and the park’s Upper Loop Trail.
According to TWRA Biologist Will Collier, there will be over five miles of fishable water from The George Hole upstream to the park’s southeastern boundary.
He said, “Having a trout stream within state park boundaries is particularly exciting as it will give anglers a unique chance to fish more water without the worry of trespassing on private land.”
Park Manager Jacob Young agreed. He said, “We are excited to have TWRA’s help in providing a fun and new park experience to our visitors. This will draw in new visitation during a typically underutilized time and also give our returning guests a new activity to try during their stay.”
Currently, Upper Cane Creek will be under the statewide trout regulation which is seven fish per day creel with no length limit. For more information about this and the state’s other seasonal trout streams, visit tnwildlife.org.
