Chattanooga Police Chief David Roddy said video confirms there was a large fight inside Hamilton Place Mall on Saturday night and a teen brandished a gun.

He said police were able to identify the gunman as David LeBron Ballard, 18. Warrants have been taken for his arrest for aggravated riot, reckless endangerment and other charges.

Chief Roddy said police have not found any evidence that a gun was fired inside the mall. He said a handgun was found outside the mall on Saturday night.

He said officers conducting a second sweep outside the mall on Sunday located a shell casing. He said it was not a match for the gun found the previous day.

Chief Roddy said some callers from the mall at the time of the incident shortly after 6 p.m. reported there was an "active shooter." He said police evacuated the mall in order to help search for a possible shooter.

He said Hamilton Place Mall officials afterward chose to close the mall for the evening.

The incident caused a stampede of customers from the mall, and one juvenile female was injured during the exodus.
