Raines, Janice Cleo (Trenton)

Janice Cleo Raines, 70, died peacefully on Monday, February 5, 2018. She was a loving mother and friend. Mrs. Raines was of the Church of Christ faith. She held many careers in her life, but the one she loved the most was being a care giver at the Orange Grove Center. Her happiest times included spending time on the river with her many friends. 

She was preceded in death by her husband and best friend of 49 years, David Joseph Raines, Sr.; grandson, David Joseph Raines III; parents, Alfred and Ethel Paine; sisters, Jean Graham of Grosse Pointe Farms, Mi., Betty (Jack) Acuff of Rockmart, Ga. and Ann (Laron) Clark of Trenton; brother, Gordan (Patsy) Walling of Chattanooga; brother-in-law, Bill Keeton, Donald Wheeler and Tommy Mitchum; and sister-in-law, Diane Ott of Tiftonia. 

Survivors include her daughter, Karla (David) Meyer of Madison, Ms.; son, Joey (Kathryn) Raines of Pensacola, Fl; granddaughters, Nicole Wade of Chattanooga, Sarah (Jason) Duren of Madison, Ms. and Kristen Meyer (Tony Burton) of Brandon, Ms.; great-grandsons Hunter Wade, Grayson Wade and Meyer Duren; great-granddaughter Lola Duren; sisters, Otelia Wheeler, Ruth Keeton, Shirley Mitchum and Connie Street, all of Trenton; brother, Wendal Paine of Trenton; sister-in-law, Melba (David) Gallegly of Dalton; brother-in-law, Mike Ott of Tiftonia, Tn.;  and several nieces, nephews and friends that she loved dearly. 

The family would like to thank Tapestry Hospice for such kindness and care, and Sandra Gray for extending her knowledge and care through this difficult journey. 

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 7 in the chapel, with Bro. David Gallegly and Bro. Tim Wheeler officiating. Interment will follow in Lake Hills Memorial Gardens, Trenton.

Family will receive friends 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at Ryan Funeral Home, Trenton.

County Commission Approves Sizable Pay Increase For Magistrates

The County Commission has approved a sizable pay raise for its four magistrates, taking them from the current $66,000 per year to $92,000 by 2021. The raises will take effect beginning with new terms for magistrates. Two of the current magistrates are up for re-appointment in May. Their pay level will become $80,000.
