Dermot Kennedy’s first ever show in Nashville sold out when he played at Exit/In on Sunday night.
For someone who had never performed in the city, the Irish singer/songwriter drew quite a crowd, packing the small venue to capacity and even drawing the attention of some notable guests including country star Brett Eldredge who posted a video of Kennedy on his Instagram account, noting what an incredible performance he gave.
Kennedy, whose music often sways back and forth from quiet and calm to fiercely passionate, opened with “An Evening I Will Not Forget,” which immediately had the dedicated audience singing along to every line.
It’s rare at club venues where everyone has a beer in hand to get quiet, fully attentive moments from an audience, but Kennedy’s deep lyrics and music held the crowd’s attention with fans fully silent, engrossed in the melodies and words of songs like “For Island Fires and Family.”
Just prior to the Nashville show he officially released a new song “Young & Free,” which he performed live for the crowd.
He also played fan favorites like “Boston,” “Moments Passed,” and “Glory.”
Kennedy continues on his sold out North American tour run through the end of the month.
