UTC To Implement Faster Route To Graduation Beginning Fall 2019

Spend less. Graduate faster. Earn more. 

Under the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga’s new “Take 15, Graduate in 4,” tuition plan, UTC students can earn their bachelor degree in four years and begin their careers more quickly.   

The plan will be implemented for fall semester 2019 and is virtually identical to the UT Martin “Soar in Four” tuition plan adopted in 2016.  The plan is based on a full time student taking and paying for 15 credit hours rather than 12 credit hours.  

Students taking 12 or more credit hours will continue to be classified as full time for federal financial aid purposes, but the Take 15, Graduate in 4 tuition plan provides incentive for students to enroll in 15 credit hours per semester so they can graduate in four years.   

Under the new tuition model, students taking 12 or more credit hours will have access to enhanced financial aid, advising, career services, and course offerings.  In exchange, students taking 12 or more credit hours will be assessed an 11 percent charge on their in-state maintenance fee, which would currently be an annual increase of $758. 

There will be no change in the tuition plan for students already enrolled at UTC, regardless of whether they are taking 12, 15 or more hours. These continuing students will have four years to graduate under their current fee structure. 

The new degree completion model will be phased in with the class of new students arriving fall 2019. They will become the first students benefiting from the new plan.
