Scots Track Competes At Emory Invitational

Three Covenant track and field relay teams set program records and both the men's and women's teams had distance program records broken as the Scots competed in the Emory Invitational over the weekend in Atlanta.

Unofficial team scores had the Covenant men 17th in the event, while the women finished 21st. 

A total of eight programs records were set over the course of the two-day event, including six on the men's side and two for the women. Additional program records were established in three events.

For the men, the 4x800 and distance medley relay teams set program records in their races.
The 4x800 group of Micaiah Allison, Leif Le Mahieu, Matthew Broussard, and Will Richardson set the program mark at 8:38.23 and finished in sixth place overall to garner four points for the Scots. In the DMR, it was Caleb Aikens, William Bryan, William Wallace, and Matt Seitz finishing in a time of 11:05.68 to place fifth and pick up four points.

In the 4x400, Bryan, Le Mahieu, Allison, and Wallace produced the top time for the season for the Scots at 3:34.96.

Seitz and Aikens also set personal and program records in their distance events. Seitz finished 20th overall, and won his section, in the 5000 meter with a program-best time of 16:09.77. Aikens set a program record in the 1500 meter event as he placed 18th with a time of 4:14.66. 

Le Mahieu produced a program record in the 800 meter run as he finished in a time of 2:03.58 and was 25th overall. Wallace placed 30th in the same event with a personal best time of 2:06.23. In the 200 meter, Bryan finished 10th with a time of 22.63.

Michael Rawlings broke his own mark in the javelin throw as he topped out at a mark of 42.60 meters and placed 14th. Rawlings also became the first male track and field athlete in program history to compete in the shot put.

The women's team saw a pair of program records fall during the event. Lilly Smith passed her own mark in the 1500 as she finished in a personal and program record time of 4:57.76. The other program record came in the distance medley relay as Margaret Fitch, Hannah Hennigh, Smith, and Hannah Samuels combined for a time of 13:26.51 and a sixth place finish, which netted three points for Covenant.

Morgan Barney became the first female track and field athlete in the program's history to run the 10,000 meter race and she finished in a time of 49:24.03. Covenant also put together the first 4x800 squad as Michelann Settle, Anna Danek, Sydney Fitch, and Alexandra May came in seventh with their time of 11:00.36. The finish gave Covenant three points in the meet.

In the 5000 meter, Samuels finished in 23rd overall with a time of 20:01.69. Virginia Kay Roberts set a personal best, and the team's best time of the year, in the 400 meter as she finished in 1:08.20. Sydney Fitch set her personal mark in the 800 meter at 2:45.61.

Covenant will be back in competition on Friday, March 30 at the one-day Hilltop Classic, hosted by Birmingham Southern.
