Lifelong Chattanoogan Was Faithful Blood Donor

Vernon C. Smith, 88, of Chattanooga, Tennessee, passed away on Saturday, March 3, 2018.

Vernon was born and lived in Chattanooga all of his life. He graduated from Red Bank High School in 1947. Vernon was a loyal member of Red Bank Lions Club and served as president during 1984-1985. He was a member of Red Bank Methodist Church and attended the Shaw Murray Class.  Vernon gave over 48 gallons of O- blood during 386 visits to the Chattanooga Blood Bank.

Vernon was preceded by his wife, Catherine Miles Smith; parents, John Y. and Annie Torbett Smith; and four siblings.

Vernon is survived by his daughters, Sandy (John) Sharp Finck and Tracy (Rodney) Wooten; grandchildren, Justin (Marilyn) Sharp, Logan, Evan and Abigail Wooten; great-grandchildren, Malia and Emma Sharp; sister, Annie Rita Smith Culp; many cousins and special friends over the years.

Thanks and gratitude to the many staff of Health Center of Standifer Place and Summit View Apartments who have helped care for him over the years. He had a heart of gold and gave to so many in need.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Vernon Smith’s name to Red Bank Lions Club, 3704 Dayton Blvd., Red Bank, Tn. 37415.

The family will receive friends on Monday, March 5, from 10 a.m.-noon at Lane Funeral Home, Ashland Terrace.

Funeral services for Vernon will be conducted at noon on Monday in the funeral home chapel with Reverend Don Smith officiating.

Interment on Tuesday will be at 10:30 a.m. at Chattanooga National Cemetery with military honors.
