Jill Mitchell

Ann Marie Mitchell, better known as Jill, passed with peace and grace while surrounded by her family on February 27, 2018.

Born in May of 1937, she was 80 years old.

Jill was predeceased by her husband, Ed and is dearly loved and survived by her six children, George, Edward, Forrest, Tina (Ray), Lee (Patty), and Patty. She is also survived by her 12 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren, each of whom had the great pleasure of being Maw Maw’s “favorite”.

Originally from Tampa, Fl., where she attended Sacred Heart Academy and The University of Tampa, she spent most of her life in her adopted hometown of LaFayette, Georgia.  She retired from North LaFayette Elementary School and she also worked for the Walker County Sheriff’s Department and The First Baptist Church.

She was a devout Christian and a parishioner of Saint Gerard Catholic Church in Fort Oglethorpe.  In her own words, she lived a blessed life.  She was a supporter of many charitable causes and was quick to give and volunteer in times of need.  She was affectionally referred to as “the sweetest woman I know” or just “sweet Jill”.

A visitation will be held at Wallis-Wilbanks Funeral Home in LaFayette, Ga., on March 10, from 2-6 p.m., followed by a Celebration of Life Reception at 6 p.m. at the LaFayette Housing Authority. Mass service and interment will be private.
