League Of Women Voters Of Tennessee To Hold Spring Council In Chattanooga

The League of Women Voters of Tennessee will hold its spring council meeting in Chattanooga. League leaders from across the state will focus on the “Keys to Democracy.”  Sessions will focus on voting issues, government transparency and the League’s legislative agenda in the TN Legislature.
 
Amanda Wintersieck, UC Foundation associate professor of political science, University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, will share her research on best practices to get out the vote.  There will also be a panel discussion about the local Leagues’ experience with the online voter registration in voter registration drives across the state.
Linda Phillips, Shelby County administrator of elections will report on the status of Instant Runoff Voting for local elections in Memphis/Shelby County.
 
Deborah Fisher, executive director of the Tennessee Coalition for Open Government, will provide an update on public records and open meetings issues in Tennessee. The League lobbyist, Stewart Clifton, will provide a briefing on the League’s priority issues and the TN Legislature.
 
"Attendees will learn early League history through Linda Mines’ portrayal of Abby Crawford Milton, the Chattanooga suffrage leader who became the first president of the LWV of Tennessee. Linda Mines is the official historian for the City of Chattanooga and Hamilton County," officials said.
 
The meeting will be April 28-29 at the DoubleTree Hotel in Chattanooga.  The meeting is open to the public.  Registration details can be found at www.lwvtn.org.
