Covenant Women's Tennis Falls In USA South Tournament

The Covenant women's tennis team fell to North Carolina Wesleyan, 7-2, in the first round of the USA South Tournament on Friday afternoon in LaGrange.

Covenant drops to 9-9 on the year.
N.C. Wesleyan, ranked regionally at No. 11 by the ITA, goes to 10-3.


Covenant earned points in both doubles and singles play, but could not overcome the Battling Bishops. Annie DeLuca and Esther Eddy took down N.C. Wesleyan's Florencia Sorrentino and Louise Hovhammer 8-2 at the top doubles spot to briefly tie the match at 1-1. However, N.C. Wesleyan would take a 2-1 match lead with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles.

In singles play, it was Aly Hall tallying a point for Covenant as she defeated Sorrentino 6-4, 6-2 at the top spot. Hall's win cut the match deficit at the time to 4-2.

N.C. Wesleyan would take the remaining five singles matches to earn the win. N.C. Wesleyan will move on and face Piedmont on Saturday in the semifinal round.
