John Lawrence Davis was sentenced on Monday to eight months of home confinement on a federal conviction related to receiving shipments of marijuana through the U.S. Postal Service.

Davis, who also was ordered to pay a $5,500 fine, appeared before Judge Sandy Mattice.

He will be outfitted with an electronic device during the home detention.

Prosecutors said Davis received a number of shipments of 5-10 pounds of marijuana from California. They arrived about every two weeks.

He admitted distributing the marijuana here.

Authorities said a drug-sniffing K9 hit on one of the packages on March 3, 2016. The package was opened and the marijuana found.

On March 7, Davis inquired about the package at the North Chattanooga Post Office.

The next day there was a controlled delivery to him, then he was arrested.

He admitted distributing from 20-40 kilograms of marijuana between December 2015 and March 2016.
