Mary Ellen Newman, 88, of East Ridge, Tennessee, passed away Monday, April 16, 2018. 

She was an active member of the Duncan Park Baptist church. Participating in Bible study groups and working with flowers were some of the things in life she most enjoyed.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one grandchild, Samuel Hargraves.  

Mrs. Newman is survived by her husband of 66 years, William Donald Newman, Sr. who she married on July 14, 1951. Also surviving is one daughter and son-in-law, Donna (Boyd) Hargraves of Chattanooga; three sons and daughters-in-law, William (Lorrie) Newman, Jr. of Atlantic Beach, Fl., Doug (Lisa) Newman, Murfreesboro, Tn., and Mark (Myra) Newman, Elizabethton, Tn.; sisters, Pauline Swafford, Red Bank, and sister and brother-in-law, Betty (Marshall)  Doster, of Georgia;  11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. 

Funeral services to be held on Friday, April 20, at 1 p.m. in the Duncan Park Baptist Church with son, Mark Newman officiating. 

Visitation will also be held for Mrs. Newman at the church and will be held from noon until the hour of service at 1 p.m. 

Arrangements are under the care of Chattanooga Funeral Home Crematory and Florist East Chapel, 404 South Moore Road, East Ridge, Tn. 37412.
