Senator Alexander, Corker, Perdue Lament Loss Of Former First Lady Barbara Bush

United States Senator Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) released the following statement on the passing of former First Lady Barbara Bush:

“Today our country lost a bright, caring, independent lady, and Honey and I lost a good friend. Barbara Bush set a wonderful example as wife, mom, First Lady and advocate for familyliteracy. We express to the Bush family our deepest sympathy and respect for her life.”

Senator Bob Corker said, “Our nation is a better place today because of the example former First Lady Barbara Bush set as a wife, mother, and public servant, and we are thankful for the remarkable legacy she leaves behind.”

“Elizabeth and I will forever cherish the memories we have of hosting her and former President George H.W. Bush at our Chattanooga home several years ago. Our thoughts and prayers are with entire Bush family and all those who were touched by the First Lady's life.”

Senator David Perdue (R-GA) said, "Bonnie and I join the nation in mourning the loss of former First Lady Barbara Bush. Barbara's faith, her love for her family, and commitment to our nation inspired us all. She made a lasting impression on countless lives through her work on education and literacy programs. Barbara will be missed greatly, and we are sending our heartfelt prayers to President George H.W. Bush and the entire Bush family during this very difficult time.”
