Judge David Campbell Chapter Has Conservation Project At Chickamauga Battlefield

  • Wednesday, April 18, 2018

Judge David Campbell Chapter members (and sisters) Joann Wood and Sharon Linden belong to the Chattanooga Bicycle Club. They have spent many hours riding through the Chickamauga Battlefield in Georgia. These ladies noticed at the visitor's center two, big open areas with nothing but dirt and weeds, and they wanted to make this area more attractive.

The Chattanooga Bicycle Club made a donation to the Judge David Campbell Chapter to purchase the plants, as well as various JDCC members.

The park rangers at the battlefield tilled the soil and prepared it for a few weeks and put various growth nutrients into the soil. They also supplied over 40 bags of mulch. JDCC members, and their spouses, took around two hours on Monday to plant over 30 plants and add the mulch. Only native and pollinator plants were allowed to be planted in these areas.

In the near future, information signs will also be placed by the native and pollinator plants.
