Morning Pointe Foundation, Parkridge Host Caregiver Café On Guilt And Grief

  • Wednesday, April 18, 2018

Dozens of family and professional caregivers attended the second “Caregiver Café” event hosted by the Morning Pointe Foundation and Parkridge Health System. The series explores the psychological impact of caregiving for someone with memory loss and aging.

Melissa Arkin, CEO of Parkridge Valley Hospital, and Amy Whipple, MSN, RN, NE-BC, associate chief nursing officer of Parkridge Valley Adult and Senior Campus, discussed “Guilt & Grief: The Silent Burdens of Caregiving."

"This was an extra special presentation because everyone in the room said they had not heard about the core of where their grief and guilt was coming from," said Amy Whipple.

"We talked a lot about how to process that and move on. It was good, not only for the attendees, but for Melissa and myself in knowing that we are making a difference in the work we do."

The Caregiver Café is open to the public and takes place at The Lantern at Morning Pointe Alzheimer’s Center of Excellence, Chattanooga, at 7620 Shallowford Road.

Future Caregiver Café events will take place on the following dates (speakers and times to be announced):

• July 24 – Now What? How do Stroke, COPD, Vascular Dementia and Cardiovascular Disease Change Behaviors?

• Oct. 23 – Dementia, Delirium and Depression – How to Know the Difference and Minimize Behaviors
