Two members of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women's tennis team were recognized with Southern Conference postseason awards today. Senior Samantha Caswell was a second team all-conference selection in singles, while freshman Emma Van Hee made the SoCon All-Freshman squad.
Caswell, a native of Chattanooga, has made the All-SoCon team in either singles or doubles all four years of her career. She is currently 6-9 at the No. 1 spot for the Mocs, including a 3-4 mark in league play.
"Samantha has a big game and her talent has carried us through many matches this season," stated head coach Chad Camper. "She is determined and leads the team off the court as well."
Van Hee joined the Mocs from Tournai Belgium. She is currently tied for team lead at 14-11 overall and 7-3 at No. 5 singles. She has 4-3 mark in league matches and a 13-13 doubles record, including 5-7 at No. 1 with Caswell.
"Emma has only improved since the first day of practice," added Camper. "We are happy for her accomplishments. Emma has a great future ahead."
The Mocs finished the regular season with a 9-7 overall record and a fourth place finish in the SoCon at 4-3. The Mocs are hosting the Southern Conference Tournament this weekend at the Champions Club. UTC's takes on Mercer in the Quarterfinals on Friday, April 20, at 1:00 p.m. (E.D.T.).
