Review for the show:

Bessie Smith was the highest-paid black performers of her time. She possessed a powerful, soulful voice that won her countless fans throughout the world. She has been a primary influence for countless female vocalists from Mahalia Jackson to Aretha Franklin.

She is one of the shining reflections of the city's rich cultural heritage and the JAM Fest 2018 Celebration will end paying homage to The Empress of The Blues, Bessie Smith.

Neshawn Calloway will portray Bessie in the musical tribute. Ms. Calloway is a sought after vocalist who performs genres such as gospel, classical, jazz and she currently has released a new musical CD project honoring Bessie Smith.
